In a context of accelerating climate change and socioeconomic development in the Arctic and Subarctic regions, Sentinel North helps generate the knowledge needed to improve our understanding of the northern environment and its impact on human beings and their health.
The program builds on a convergence of strategic research areas in which Université Laval is already a recognized national and international leader: northern and Arctic sciences, optics-photonics, the microbiome, cardiometabolic health, and neurosciences, to conduct transformative research, develop new technologies and train a new generation of interdisciplinary researchers.
It is our pleasure to present Sentinel North’s activity report for 2021-2022 in its all-new digital format, offering a concise and engaging annual review of our research community's accomplishments. Despite its challenges, 2021-2022 was a year in which our research teams with their partners continued to strive towards filling fundamental gaps in our knowledge of the changing North. From emerging results to the interdisciplinary achievements of our graduates, the stories in this report are examples of how Sentinel North is leading change with its innovative research and training strategies. We look forward to another year of discoveries and accelerated knowledge mobilization, always at the forefront of collaborative research.
Addressing the complex issues of the changing North requires a research approach that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. Encouraging the development of collaborative research teams and projects focused on interdisciplinarity, technological innovation, collaboration, and national and international partnerships, the Sentinel North program is deployed around 3 priority research axes and a strategic conceptual framework .
To shed light on the northern environment and its impact on humans by means of innovative new technologies and interdisciplinary research initiatives in support of sustainable health and development.
The program is made possible thanks, in part, to significant funding from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
Sentinel North is financially supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec.
