At the heart of our community are exceptional individuals who are committed to developing innovative and collaborative research projects and initiatives that promote training and knowledge mobilization.

Discover some of the key moments of the 2021-2022 year and some of the recognitions of excellence received by members of the Sentinel North community.

An Involved Community

From November 2 to 4, 2021, close to 400 participants took part in the Sentinel North Scientific Meeting, an exceptional showcase of interdisciplinary research aimed at better understanding the transformation of northern environments and its impact on humans. Presented online for the first time, the event was a great success with representatives from over 40 partner organizations.

A Growing Community

Sentinel North was pleased to welcome three new Research Chairs to its program this past year. The Sentinel North Research Chair on Respiratory Viruses at the Animal-Human Interface: Emergence and Control (Chairholder: Marianna Baz), the Sentinel North Partnership Research Chair on Northern Infrastructure (Chairholder: Jean-Pascal Bilodeau) and a prestigious Fullbright Canada Research Chair (Chairholder: Mark Patterson) join the 13 research chairs already in place since 2017.

A Dynamic Community

The Sentinel North research community is fueled by a variety of networking events throughout the year. These events are supported by the Sentinel North Student Association (AÉSN). By encouraging the development and dissemination of these activities, the AÉSN enhances the integration and experience of Sentinel North students. This network fosters the engagement of the community, increases opportunities for connection between members of distant disciplines and contributes to the success of the training strategy.

With members from diverse backgrounds, the AESN is a reflection of Sentinel North's core values, as it enables a new generation of researchers to experience interdisciplinarity, to draw inspiration from it and to innovate in convergent research.
